We know that barriers to primary care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) exist at the individual, practice, and system levels. These barriers—such as communication challenges, lack of training for providers, and limited access to tailored resources—often prevent the effective use of guidelines and tools designed to improve health care for this population. In this interactive session, we’ll explore together how to turn these barriers into clear, actionable steps for meaningful change. Using the comprehensive health check as an example, we’ll take a practical, theory-informed approach to identify who needs to do what differently and how to make it happen. Everyone involved in healthcare is invited to join the conversation and share their perspectives.
